Maataram Foundation, Tata Trusts and Hydromo Partner for Clean Water Access in Mallampudi Village, Andhra Pradesh!
At Maataram Foundation, we aim to uplift and help rural communities by addressing their most critical needs. In collaboration with Tata Trust and Hydromo, we started on a journey to provide clean drinking water to Mallampudi, a village in Krishna District near the Bay of Bengal.
The Problem
For water needs for drinking and other uses, the villagers of Mallampudi have been dependent on groundwater and bore water from a nearby pond. This water source was inadequate and unsafe for human consumption, it caused several health problems among the villagers. The urgency for a sustainable solution in order to provide safe drinking water was acute.
The Solution
A WATER ATM was installed in the village to allow the villagers to have access to clean, treated drinking water at a very low cost. To this end, we designed a desalination plant using advanced water treatment solutions by Hydromo. We also established a 2KL/PH Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant which reduced the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) level from a dangerous level - 13,000 mg/L to a safe 30 mg/L. Making the quality of the water as good as purchased bottled water.
Impact on the Community
Thanks to this initiative, clean water is now available 24/7 at the Water ATM. Villagers can access 20 litres of purified water for just Rs 7, a significant reduction from the market price of Rs 400. This not only provides a vital resource but also alleviates financial burdens on the community. Villagers no longer have to worry about waterborne diseases, and their overall health has improved significantly.

Sustainability and Future Plans
Sustainability and Future Plans
This is a sustainable solution to ensure the uninterrupted provision of pure water through WATER ATM and RO plant implementation. Introducing cheap means of getting high-quality water has been well appreciated by the people as they have started feeling that they are part of this system and therefore, should play their role in its maintenance. Maataram Foundation will be able to strike a balance between profit and social benefit if it can replicate this model for other villages in India.
Conclusion
Maataram Foundation together with Tata Trusts and Hydromo has had long-lasting effects on people’s lives at Mallampudi hence making it more sustainable for future generations. This project demonstrates how partnerships drive meaningful changes, thus improving the quality of life in rural India.
